Comments:  I stumbled upon this site from a Google search. I've been wrestling thoughts in my head about religion for quite some time. I am Catholic but stopped attending mass years ago. I still wrestle with my conscious if this is the right move. I come from a very religious family on both my mother and father's side (particularly my father's). I must admit that through my Catholic upbringing, teachings from Catholic schools and church I have always got the message that it is more important to be charitable and good to people and to go the extra mile to help thy neighbour. Perhaps those who have had to suffer at the hands of Christianity in the past or today can take some solace in this. I have a deep interest in religion and find it shocking yet interesting what people have done in the name of religion, particularly the growing extremism in Islam today. I think reading what Hindus have had to suffer at the hands of Muslims and Christians yet maintain a pacifist nature is remarkable and tipped the scales in my decision as to whether I should start attending mass again. I believe it is better to listen to one's conscious and forget about religion. Religion (especially the "big 3"; Judaism, Christianity and Islam) have caused this world more bad than good. They brainwash their followers to act out evil yet be justified while the moderates try to feebly claim its’ not the true message and they don't represent them. Disturbingly, vast numbers of Christians supported the violent actions carried out in its "evangelist" activities of the past. They were "saving" and "civilizing" the world. Muslims are no better: A tidal wave of extremism is sweeping it today and corrupting its followers. Their unbelievable barbarity, hypocrisy and self-denial allow them to carry out violence on a global scale against all "non-believers" backed up by plenty of quotes either directly or misquoted from their Koran. Yet, after all this "religion bashing" on my part, it was reading briefly about Hinduism that led me to this view that I should unshackle myself from the rigid rules of religion and just be a good person. Perhaps if I haven't lost total faith in religion I may return to it and learn much more about Hinduism. Thank-you.

(Editor’s Note: Thank you for sharing your thoughts and observations. Best wishes on your spiritual quest. Warm regards).

Comments:  Dear Sushmaji, For this wonderful effort I feel you deserve some international award, if you do not have one already. I also feel that since the words Hindu and Hinduism were chiefly used by the others to describe us, we should stop describing ourselves as such. For example, the English are referred to as the Angrez in some Indian languages, but they do not refer to themselves like that! I feel that words are powerful and while Bharat may have got its’ freedom, there is still a long way to go. People such as Sikhs, Harijans, Buddhists and some trouble mongers etc. need to be made aware that they are not different or a separate religion, and this can be possible if everyone just refers to themselves as Sanatani perhaps, belonging to the one Sanatan Dharma. This will foster unity among other things. Would you like to share your opinion on this? Thank you for giving me this treasure house of knowledge and the opportunity to express my thoughts.

(Editor’s Note: Thank you for your kind compliments on this website and for sharing your thoughtful observations regarding Hinduism. For many decades now Santan Dharma has been known as ‘Hinduism’ in our textbooks and other literature around the globe; it will have to be sweeping change made by all Hindu organizations and the Government of India at the highest level regarding this nomenclature to be really effective. In turn these changes can then be reflected on the Internet and countless other websites. I do agree with your sentiments, Indic faiths are facing a grave danger today from dogmatic creeds that are bent on destroying everything that has sprouted organically from Bharat. In order to foster unity, all Dharmic people, Sikhs, Harijans, Buddhists, Jains, need to get over their petty differences to ensure survival of our unique cultural identity for the future generations. Warm regards).

Comments:  Dear Sushmaji, I really love your website. It is awe inspiring and motivating. There was a story in the Ramayana that when Sita decides to accompany Rama Kaushalya gives her specials clothes that would not require cleaning. Recently I read about a similar invention done by scientists. After reading information on the Yantra and Vimana techology of those times, I feel inclined to believe that during Ramayana times they had a lot more wonderful things. Attached is the news. Thank You. Self-cleaning underwear needs no washing for weeks Front page / Science / Technologies and discoveries. Self-cleaning fabrics could revolutionize the sport apparel industry. The technology, created by scientists working for the U.S. Air Force, has already been used to create t-shirts and underwear that can be worn hygenically for weeks without washing. Self-cleaning underwear needs no washing for weeks - The new technology attaches nanoparticles to clothing fibers using microwaves. Then, chemicals that can repel water, oil and bacteria are directly bound to the nanoparticles. These two elements combine to create a protective coating on the fibers of the material. This coating both kills bacteria, and forces liquids to bead and run off. The U.S. military spent more than $20 million to develop the fabric, deriving from research originally intended to protect soldiers from biological weapons. Jeff Owens, one of the scientists who worked to develop the process, said, "During Desert Storm, most casualties were from bacterial infections-not accidents or friendly fire. We treated underwear for soldiers who tested them for several weeks and found they remained hygienic. They also helped clear up some skin complaints." Science fiction writer Neal Stephenson wrote specifically about nanotech fabrics that stayed clean; he referred to "fabricules" in his 1995 novel The Diamond Age: ...with a quick brush, John and Gwendolyn were able to transfer most of the dirt onto their white gloves. From there it went straight into the air. Most gentlemen's and ladies' gloves nowadays were constructed of infinitesimal fabricules that knew how to eject dirt...British news organizations pointed out that an earlier reference to the general idea of clothes that never got dirty can be found in the 1951 film "The Man in the White Suit." Sci-fi fans can console themselves with the fact that the lead role was played by Alec Guiness, who of course played Obiwan Kenobi in the original Star Wars films.

(Editor’s Note: Thank you very much for your kind and thoughtful words of appreciation for this website as well as the news on self cleaning fabric. It seems like same ancient technology gets reinvented through the ages. Warm regards).

Comments:  I am a Swedish man who is fascinated in religion, philosophy, art, poetry, literature, music, theatre, and culture on the whole. I was reading the chapter about the ancient Indian seafarers and I was impressed to read that article. I done it because I am writing an essay about Buddhism, but it was necessary to begin with the history of the ancient Indian history. Well, that was the reason to read that interesting stuff, and I came across this fascinating topic because I had a theory about how Indian religions as Hinduism, and Buddhism was spread out outside of India, and came in touch with the western world in that time. I am thinking of places as Alexandria i.e. in Egypt and possibly the Judaic Palestine and even the ancient Greece (Hellas) and ancient Rome. It was a lot of things which are right, even in that fact the Viking's pantheon in Scandinavia was an echo of the Vedic tradition and religion. Thus ideas are fascinating in any way, but there are many theories which are cul-de-sacs too. I was even looking at your personal art, I think the drawings, and the paints you have done was brilliant and very artistic! I am interested, I draw and paint too, and I am very fond of it. Well, I have my own website: http://www.jankultur.se/ in English of course! It is interesting to see others works and interests I think. I am often very curious, but it is good to be that in a positive way. I even like the Hindu gods and especially Ganesha. I have read about him. With my best regards.

(Editor’s Note: Thank you very much for your kind and thoughtful words of appreciation for this website and my personal art. Like you I am fascinated by ancient history, art and religion. Comments:  Your website is beautiful, informative and Excellent. Here is some information on Yoga: The American justice Dept. has recently approved the power of yoga and meditation when a recent judgment in the American court. "Man Who Slapped Wife Sentenced to Yoga, It's Anger Management, Says Judge." First there was house arrest. Now there's yoga. A judge ordered a man convicted of slapping his wife to take a yoga class as part of his one-year probation. "It's part of anger management," County Criminal Court at Law Judge Larry Standley said of the ancient Hindu philosophy of exercise and well-being. "For people who are into it, it really calms them down. "Standley, a former prosecutor, said the case of James Lee Cross was unique. Cross, a 53-year-old car salesman from Tomball, explained that his wife was struggling with a substance abuse problem and that he struck her on New Year's Eve during an argument about her drinking. "He was trying to get a hold of her because she has a problem," Standley said after the court hearing. "I thought this would help him realize that he only has control over himself." The sentence came as a surprise to Cross, who was told to enroll in a class and report back to Standley on his progress. "I'm not very familiar with it," Cross said of yoga. "From what I understand, it may help in a couple ways, not only as far as mentally settling, but maybe a little weight loss." Darla Magee, an instructor at Yoga Body Houston in River Oaks, said she would recommend that Cross take a basic yoga class emphasizing breathing and including a variety of postures -- forward bends, back bends and twists. "Yoga can help us to get rid of many emotional issues we might have," she said. "It's a spiritual cleanse." Prosecutor Lincoln Goodwin agreed to a sentence of probation without jail time because Cross had no significant criminal history - http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/metropolitan/2365341. Yoga which is one of the greatest Indian contributions to the world has got vast potential in all fields. In Tihar jail India Yoga is experimented among the inmates and found successful. Their criminal mentality is changed. This study aimed at investigating the effect of Vipassana Meditation (VM) on Quality of Life (QOL), Subjective Well-Being (SWB), and Criminal Propensity (CP) among inmates of Tihar Jail, Delhi. To this effect the following hypotheses were formulated. 1. There will be a significant positive effect of VM on the QOL of inmates of Tihar jail. 2. VM will have a positive and significant effect on SWB of inmates. 3. Criminal propensity (CP) of inmates will decrease significantly after attending the VM course. 4. There will be significant difference in SWB and CP of experimental (Vipassana) group and control (non-Vipassana) group. 5. Male and female inmates will differ significantly in SWB and CP, as a result of VM. In the famous "Time" magazine the importance meditation and yoga, an ancient Indian system, is high-lighted that the ancient mind- and spirit-enhancing art is becoming increasingly popular and gaining medical legitimacy. It is a multi billion dollar business in US. In many Universities it is accepted as subject and included in the Syllabus. In the latest famous book "Inspire! What Great Leaders Do" written by Mr.Lance Secretan recently published by John Wiley and sons, the benefit of meditation is elaborately described for good corporate governance. By practising transcendental meditation, or TM, many people have got relief from back pain, neck pain, and depression. The mind calms and quiets. What thoughts you have during meditation become clearer, more focused. Anger, anxiety and worries give way to a peace. In the world exorbitant medical expenses one can definitely make use of meditation. Maharshi Mahesh Yogi and Sri Ravi Sankar are popularising this. The Iyengar Yoga institute in US is famous.

Comments:  Hindu Sadhus, Rishis, Yogis etc... were all Shramans not Brahmans. It is well known that our Hindu Sadhu, Rishis, Yogis etc.. used to say "Alakh Niranjan" it can be possible that Mohammed must have made Allah from Alakh because Alakh Niranjan is a phrase used in Hinduism and Sikhism to describe the characteristics of God and the Self (Atman). Alakh means "that which is not seen" and niranjan means "without any stains." Even Guru Nanak had told his follower to pray to Alakh Niranjan. All Dharmic religion believe in the significance of OM. Shri Ram recited OM. Shri Ram is himself Om. Shri Krishna recited OM. Shri Krishna is himself Om. Mahavir Vardhman recited OM. Mahavir Vardhman is himself Om. Gautam Buddha recited OM. Gautam Buddha is himself Om. All mantras has OM. All tantras has OM. Even Shri Ganesh is also called Omkara. OM is another form of Shiva. Shiv is himself Om. OM is another form of Vishnu. Vishnu is himself Om. OM is another form of Parabrahma. Brahma is himself Om.

I am very grateful to you because of the output you have generated. This site has triggered a chain reaction in me for knowing more about a culture which pervades all the eras and geographies. As for the other enthusiasts.....do get your hands on: 1). Hindu Wisdom – By Sir Monier Williams 2.) Shiva (The God of Power & Ecstasy) - (German Writer.....Wolf D. Storl).

(Editor’s Note: Thank you very much for sharing the names of the above books. I am glad to know that this site has provided enrichment and enlightenment to you for many years. warm regards).

Comments:  Dear Madam, As one born of Hindu descent, I came across your Excellent Site only last night and must state explicitly that this is the first time in my 68 years have I been exposed to such insightful information on our Beloved Hinduism. Wow! It is imperative that Hindus from the Caribbean areas as well as the various countries where Hindus reside be exposed to this plethora of information on India's priceless heritage. How saddened I am indeed to have seen Indians from Canada, the United States of America as well as Europe and the Caribbean areas losing sight of our beautiful way of life as espoused by Hinduism. Although born outside of India, in my heart I always felt that Mother India (Bharat Mata)will always be my home. No other country can replace her. Thank you so very much for the wonderful work you are doing for Hindus in general and to those born outside of Hinduism to know that they are most welcome to embrace the Universality of this Great Way of Life. ' No greater tribute has been paid to any country than by the great German Scholar, Friedrich Max Mueller than in his book: "India: What Can It Teach Us?" It is indeed an 'eye-opener.' Again, most appreciative of your efforts on the wonderful work being done on our behalf. Sincerely, Hari Radhakrishnan Madray.

(Editor’s Note: Thank you very much for the thoughtful compliments for this website. warm regards).

Comments:  Only a handful of people in the world appreciate the sublime teachings of the Vedas to be the postgraduate study of any and all religious conceptions. Perhaps this wonderful and comprehensive website will awaken and enlighten many others by presenting the treasure house of Vedic wisdom. You are doing a great service not only for Hindus but for all people everywhere.

(Editor’s Note: Thank you very much for the kind words of encouragement and appreciation. regards).

Comments:  1) Nice to visit website with full of Information. However I see very few lines have been added from the writings of Shri. Purushottam Nagesh Oak, who had instituted an Institute of Rewriting of Indian and world History. His books on Taj Mahal - Tejo mahalaya Shiv mandir and other theories need to be put forth on all possible fronts. I proud to announce that I happen to be his nephew. 2) I am keen to understand and study the Naadi Astrology practiced in Tamil Nadu and now Naadi Centers available in all parts of India. I have written a book in Hindi, Marathi and English - titled "Naadi Predictions - A Mind Boggling Miracle" 3) I propose to make a "dictionary of Words used in Naadi palm leaves" so that the standard of translation would improve. 4) Is there anybody who could provide the web know-how and compilation assistance to our study group in this regard? 5) Also can any Tamilian scholar could come forward to decode some leaves available with me for study purpose? Interested may contact on shashikantoak@yahoo.co.in - Wing Commander - Shashikant Oak.

(Editor’s Note: Thank you very much for your appreciation for this website. Glad to know that you are Dr. P N Oak’s nephew. I do have a copy of his bold and daring book – The Taj Mahal Is A Temple Palace, which at least challenges us and the Indian Government to think ‘out of the box’ history that is routinely taught in India. It makes us ask many uncomfortable questions about the Taj Mahal that need answers. As well as puzzling inconsistencies which make no sense? Negating history does not help to heal the wound that Hindu civilization has endured. Keeping in mind that the chapter length may get too long I have put some excerpts from his book in the chapter ‘Islamic Onslaught’ and have linked it to other excellent websites. I will try to add more photos from his book in the future. Your interest in Naadi predictions is intriguing. If you would like to send me some information or articles on it, I will be happy to include it in the website. I hope you have had some input from Tamil scholars and readers to this website for decoding leaves in your possession. Warm regards).

Comments:  Hindu wisdom is, no doubt, highest and the most refined! It evolved over centuries. In a way Hinduism is not a religion, but, as most people say, it is a way of life! If Hinduism is considered as a religion, most other supposedly religions are mere cults!

Comments:  When I heard of ICCS sponsored Hindu- Maya conference held in 2005 in Guatemala( Latin America) to increase the understanding between two cultures, my interest in Mayan culture grew. This thought had always been persisting in my mind that there is somehow a connection between Indian (Hindu) culture and Red Indians, but I could never find references towards this direction. Today while discussing this issue with a friend, the discussion again turned towards Naaga - Mayans and its connection to Nagas of India. I happened to reach your website by chance looking for those threads and I did find a rich reference too. Your web-site appears to be an excellent work and I must applaud your efforts. I am a born Hindu and am more interested in the sociology of religion. Today when there is so much of violence and hatred in the world as exemplified by religious and ethnic clashes almost everywhere, Hinduism is very relevant and actually offers very secular solutions too as manifested in the tenets of tolerance, universal peace and harmony. But the irony is that Hinduism itself is under attack: treating people of a secular country (read India) as majority and minority on the basis of religion and appeasing minorities to capture them as vote banks) and then conversion/proselytization is another very crucial issue. The secular India has not been able to tackle terrorism and this issue is a constant threat to the nation. I am sure that revival of a vibrant Hinduism is only to the advantage of this world and Hindus need to awaken to this reality.

Comments:  Namaste, Madam, I'm greatly rejoiced to see this website. I pray that the creators of this website be blessed. I think popularity of www.hinduwisdom.info would increase if the domain is .com instead of .info. I think that there must me some reason for usage of .info, however I think .com would be better to reach wider audience for many reasons.
