Short-sighted
leaders

On September 30, 2000, Father John
Earl – a Roman Catholic priest – rammed his car through the garage of an
Illinois abortion clinic. Then swinging a pickax, he tried to destroy the place
shouting: “ This place is condemned and you are condemned”. Only the 2
shotgun rounds fired into the wall by the owner stopped the priest.
I am a Christian from India, and I
was shocked to hear about this incident in my neighborhood. But the worse came
on Sunday, when about 1000 demonstrators gathered saying they support the
devotion if not the alleged actions of Father Earl. Instead of roundly
condemning this act of terrorism by a religious leader, many people openly
encouraged it.
Interestingly, in the church of
Father Earl in Rochelle Illinois, at the evening Mass on Saturday, the Rev.
Aaron Brodeski discouraged parishioners from gossiping among themselves or with
media.
Various Christian “leaders” in
India have hounded the Hindu groups, blaming them for the recent attacks on
Christians. The Christian leaders in India do not bother to check the truth.
They do not worry about the damage their irrational and unjust blame-game is
causing to Christian-Hindu relations. The Indian media splashes every accusation
against Hindus on the front page, even if Deendar Anjuman and other ISI agents
have been caught attacking the Churches!
The Indian media twists and falsifies
the events to spoil Christian-Hindu unity. Incidents like one mentioned above
are far more potent condemnation of Christian leaders “tolerance” and
peacefulness. While the Indian media runs amok with unsubstantiated accusations
against Hindus, the Christians here make it a point not to cooperate with the
media!
I urge my fellow Christians in India
to throw away such short-sighted leaders.
